World, Civics, 13th Seminar

World: Today we portrayed philosophers as we began our study of the world religions  We discussed the framing question: How did the development of interregional networks of exchange and alphabetic writing systems contribute to the spread of world religions?   We also revisited a couple slides from the intro ppt, which is posted.  I pointed out the text resources available to you related to the world religions, pages 282-297.

In class we discussed and heard viewpoints related to the philosophy questions.... Do you know the difference between philosophy and religion?  Do you understand why these sort of questions led to the development of religion?  For the weekend, begin your own journey studying religion.  Choose up to two religions from the Dr. Ease Chart to learn about complete the chart.  We will continue with this in class, but please begin.

Have a great weekend!

Civics: We wrapped up the fishbowl with a pro-con counterpoint discussion. Thank you for sharing your research and viewpoints on the health care issue.  The briefing statement and argument map was submitted for credit.  I will read them and return them to you asap.   Yesterday, you received a jingling handout.  With this you are to journal about three stories related to health care.  You are to obtain those stories from people around you.  Neighbors, family.... Bring those journal entries to class on Monday.  During the last 20 minutes of class we began viewing SICKO, a film by Michael Moore, which highlights questions related to health care. We will finish the film on Monday... I hope. There is a guide to some of the segments which requires your response.

Have a great weekend!

13th Seminar:  Town Hall (elections today) and a visit from Madonna.  Are you working on your college applications?
