Civics-Focus-World

Civics: We began covering the concepts related to the Cornell Notes. Today our focus was on The Schenck Case... the balancing test, clear and present danger, Time Place and Manner, and I mentioned the test for obscenity.  In addition we set forth the forms and types of speech.  Remember, the Bill of Rights extend to the States via State Constitutions because State Constitutions mirror the Federal Constitution.

For tonight, spend time Analyzing the Hazlewood case. Set forth in a (t chart, or double entry diary), the facts, issue and rule (one side). On the other, use the precedents provided to formulate a decision (application) for the case.  Finally, set forth the conclusion.  Will the lower court decision be affirmed (upheld) or reversed (overturned)?  We will continue with the material tomorrow in class.

Focus: Glogsters should be completed and linked to your blog today.  You will present your Glog to the class on Monday.  Please take the time to comment on each other's blogs.

World: Today we finished up the Mongols utilizing the "bad rap" reading.  Take time to reflect on what you have learned about the Mongols.  You received a subjective/take home portion of the midterm which is due next Friday, January 18.  YOU ARE TO WORK ON THIS and RESPOND to the questions INDIVIDUALLY.  We are going with the honor code here, so check your moral compass.  Take a look at the questions and see me if you are experiencing confusion.

In class we moved on to the next topic which will be Europe in the Middle Ages.  We will be doing guided notes relate to the content.  Your assignment is to read the text chapter 13(2) and 13(4).  Feel free to add information from that reading to the guided notes.  The Reading should be completed for Monday, January 14.  Next week our focus will be on the Middle Ages (13(2), 13(4) and the Black Plague 14(4).  The Objective portion of the midterm exam will cover The Mongols through the Plague.  The reading and Notes for the midterm are: 12(2), 12(3) [Mongols], Middle Ages (13(2), 13(4) and the Black Plague 14(4).
