World, Economics, 13th Seminar

SCHOOL IS CANCELLED FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 29 DUE TO THE WEATHER.

World:  Today we began the Mongols: Here's the big question:  What about the Mongols led to their success? When considering that you need to contemplate: the characteristics, of the the people, the nature of the leadership, social organization (details), environmental features, nature of the technology, ideology.  You will gain a handle on that from the reading packet I assigned today, due on Friday.  In the end,  you need to determine whether or not, the "considerations" hindered or helped with the Mongol Success. In addition, rank the "considerations' for importance.

Mrs. Iden will be here beginning Wednesday.  You will be covering the Mongols. Be sure to work on the Mongol Pak due on Friday. In addition, keep up with the class work given during the week.  On Friday, you will receive Cornell Notes for 12.2 and 12.2, those are due on Tuesday.  Mongol reading pak and Cornell notes are posted on Website.

Do your best and have a great week!
Economics: we discussed the economies of guns today.  While considering gun rights, gun control and disarmament, you were instructed to begin accumulating arguments pro and con for a Socratic seminar discussion that will occur on Monday, February 3.  The argument map (posted on website) is due on Friday completed.  You need to include a thesis as well.  You will receive the handout in class on Wednesday, but if you want a copy now, print it off the website.

Here are the captions of the argument maps.
Advocates of gun control support stricter firearm laws: tougher background checks and longer waiting periods for those purchasing guns; mandatory child safety locks; a limit of one handgun purchase per month; and raising the legal age limit for ownership of guns to age 21 from the current age of 18. They believe these measures will curb the rise of gun-related violence

Advocates of gun rights say such legislation would infringe on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. The National Rifle Association, a prominent voice in the gun debate, says firearm-control measures are unnecessary if lawmakers would enforce current laws.

Advocates of total disarmament: Taking away weapons, laying down arms, and the reduction of guns.
Use the week to research and formulate your pro-con arguments and thesis.

Do your best and have a great week!
