Civics: Today we recapped what was covered while I was out and zoomed in on political parties. On Friday, Cornell Ch. 8 is due. In class, we began reading about the history of political parties and will continue with the development of party platforms and planks in class. Be sure you are paying attention to the news, in particular platform issues related to the election.
Focus: Today all blog addresses were submitted and posted on the website. You are expected to have YOUR first critical Issue blog post by the end of class on Monday. In addition, by the end of next week, you will be expected to read your classmates blogs and post a comment for each. Of Friday we will meet in the classroom for mentoring until 11:30. After that we will go to the SMITH for Town Hall.
World: Today we spent time recapping the materials and themes covered thus far. Bottom line, civilization has a number of components and agriculture tends to be at the core of civilized societies because people become sedentary. We compared the positives and negatives related to foraging and agriculture but you will ultimately be the judge related to what seems more productive. We discussed the significance of PERSIAN for analysis and you appear to have a handle on the river valley civilizations. In class on Friday, we will begin a primary source activity to gain deeper understanding. For tonight, you are to read the short documents, making not of their meaning and purpose.
13th Seminar: Team building (in your assigned focus from the first day), then Town Hall in the Smith. University of Detroit Mercy will be on campus during our class period on Monday. We hope you are obtaining college apps and beginning the necessary work for the process.
