Civics-Focus-World-13th Seminar

Civics: Today we firmed up the platform issues for the GOP and began exploring the views of the Dem's. You bulleted your ideas on chart paper. Tomorrow we will decipher the issues and bring in the democratic point of view.  DUE TOMORROW are Cornell notes for Ch. 9.  Publicity and Media, a huge component of campaigns and elections.

Focus: Today we were in the smith theatre viewing a film  Sin Pais without a country.  A film about immigration and deportation.  During the debriefing many interesting comments were made but many questions remain.  Next week, I would like your blogs to focus on the current US immigration policy, and the democratic and Republican platform on the issue of immigration.  By now you have at least one blog post and have posted comments to your peers blogs. If you have not fulfilled this week's requirement, kindly do so.  Progress reports are posted tomorrow.  No class tomorrow due to early release.

World: Today we concentrated on the contents of a huge power point, where we zoomed in on the BIG questions:
  • Why did population serge at this time (ERA 1200BCE - 500CE)?
  • What were the effects of population growth?
  • What is a network of exchange?
  • Why don't networks of exchange show up until the creation of empires?
  • How did networks of exchange work?
  • What were the consequences of networks of exchange?
We will continue working on these concepts. Today you received a Cornell Notes form for the Roman Empire.  (text pg. 162-165).  You also received a sample of how to fill it out.  Do your best and be succinct.  You will be able to use your Cornell notes on an upcoming quiz, which by the way will be end of next week.  Cornell notes for Roman Empire are Due on Tuesday.

You should be taking time to review the material we have covered to date. Identify the significance of the concepts and the importance of the supporting information as your solidify your understanding of the topics.

13th Seminar: Meet in the classroom tomorrow for Internship requests. Meeting time is 10:45
