World: The topic today was the role of women, their vices and virtue and patriarchy. Our goal was to make light of the Confucian tradition and the reality of women. In addition, you obtained a Birdseye view of patriarchy whether within the readings or contained within the content of foot binding.
Tomorrow, I will be absent, and Mrs. Iden will be here. Be SURE TO TREAT HER WITH LOVE AND RESPECT. In class (some will be at CPR training). You will finish up foot binding. Be prepared to work together, to discuss and to make inferences about beauty and stereotypes. Why do we make the choices concerning beauty that we do? The activity should be completed in class. Those absent, please finish your reading and analysis at home.
Due tomorrow: Cornell Notes, Chapter 6, sec. 4: Fall of Rome. Remember to read in the context of fall of empire while considering the reasons that swirl around in your head about why empires fall.
Civics: Final speech drafts were due today. I collected a copy from you. Continue to practice your speech and brush up on your use of talking points and questions. The final prep day is tomorrow. You should leave here tomorrow, polished and ready to go on Monday with the Convention. If you are absent, you will miss the convention. Remember, to dress up in character for the event...how about extra credit for that? Be sure to complete ONE large poster and 3 small posters related to your position. These are "would-be" propaganda posters.
Convention starts on Monday. Be sure you are in attendance.
12th Focus: In class, we attempted to finish up the remaining presentations. The remainder of the period we concentrated on Mentoring and completed an activity related to same. Are you Just a Right Mentor (good), a Bad Mentor (bad), or an Over Bearing Mentor (ugly)? What was your take away from today?
