Economics: The jigsaw that we began in class will be completed tomorrow. So far, very nice job. It was fun and rewarding to see engaged teaching and learning. For this evening, please read ch. 5.1 & 5.2. More on Supply tomorrow.
Focus: Your blog post (4) should be completed by Friday. I will read the posts on Monday. Great job! I'm impressed at the extent of your interest in critical issues. Well done!
World: Today we continued with the Hero Myth and Columbus. When you arrived in class, you completed an ENTRY SLIP... whereby you had to make a claim related Columbus, the explorer or conqueror. On the handout, you made a claim, made a list of evidence to support that claim, and then set forth a well reasoned analysis of your claim supported with your stated evidence.
To gain further context, we read & interpreted a poem Columbus Day, by Jimmy Durham (Cherokee Poet). From this poem, you gain a insight from the perspective of the conquered.
Finally, we began in class a chapter from, Lies my Teacher Told Me, by James Lowen, about Columbus. There are questions that go along with the reading and the questions will be due on Monday for Credit.
Now is a good time to go back through your Cornell Notes on Conquest, p. 553-559, and add to them any additional information that you have learned. You will be able to use the notes on an upcoming quiz. Tomorrow, we will begin a second look at conquest from the POV of Jared Diamond's, Guns, Germs, & Steel.
